JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry would propose granting protection to the leading industries of high productivity, in order to become Indonesia's main industry. According to the Minister of Industry, MS Hidayat, the proposed protection is based on the model of industrial efficiency ala Professor Ha-Joon Chang of Cambridge University, England, which states, higher-productivity industry must be developed to focus the country.
"We cannot directly enter the free trade because many infant industries, industries that need protection baby and be protected for a certain period and must be monitored. Of course this protection is not forever, until he could develop, "said Industry Minister who expressed his thoughts in line with Prof. Chang.
On that occasion, Hidayat proposed protection and certain benefits for industry excellence. For example, convenience in terms of infrastructure, including industrial gas supply assurance, ease of import duties of raw materials, ease tax rules, as well as other incentives to ensure the industry grows competitive.
But Hidayat cannot say specifically which industries can be seeded Indonesia. "The industry is developing many of our pre-eminent.
